Dear Volunteers:
There are three traits that distinguish the volunteers who sustain and support us – magnanimous, indefatigable and immensely resourceful.
Volunteers have made the greatest impact on Hôpital Albert Schweitzer (HAS) Haiti. All volunteers who take up the cause of HAS, whether they be lending a shoulder on the island or contributing their energy and enterprise from home, have sustained and advanced the work and service of this organization immensely over the last fifty-two years. Volunteers striving hard to make HAS known to more people and mobilizing their support have been the backbone of the fundraising efforts of HAS. Volunteers who have traveled to Deschapelles braving the uncertainties that are invariably associated with that travel have greatly inspired those who are resident there.
The role of a volunteer at HAS also has changed subtly over the years. The right fit occurs when there is a clearly identified need and the right person emerges with the right skill set and time to devote to the task at hand. And that is what creates magic on the ground at Deschapelles and a lasting impact on the quality of life and times in the Artibonite Valley!
