Rehabilitation
The HAS/Hanger Clinic
Following the earthquake, Hanger Orthopedic Group together with the Hanger Ivan R. Sabel Foundation created The Haitian Amputee Coalition, which established a long-term prosthetic and rehabilitation center on-site at HAS. The center became active within 90 days of the earthquake.
Patients at The HAS/Hanger Clinic receive professional evaluations, prosthetics manufactured on-site, physical therapy, and ongoing support for needed adjustments. Haitians are being trained in the clinic to develop the skills necessary to manufacture and repair prosthetics.
- On a typical day, more than 40 patients are seen in the clinic, being outfitted with artificial limbs and learning to regain mobility.
- The clinic has provided artificial limbs to more than 1000 earthquake victims since opening in 2010.

Rehabilitation Technician Training Program (RTTP)
In Haiti, rehabilitation professions such as physical, speech, and occupational therapy are virtually non-existent. People with disabilities often live isolated existences and are given few opportunities to contribute to their communities.
In 2007, HAS, in partnership with The Friends of HAS Haiti, sponsored the Rehabilitation Technician Training Program (RTTP) which aims to reduce the burden of disability for the people of the Artibonite Valley. By training students in basic rehabilitation skills, it is designed to establish a model of service and build professional infrastructure for rehabilitation services for the entire country.
