Introducing Marthe, Agroforestry Manager
We would like to introduce you to our HTRIP Agroforestry Manager, Marthe Maudeline Duperlie. Marthe joined HAS in 2018. As manager of the Haiti Timber Reintroduction Program (HTRIP), Marthe is responsible for planning and management of reforestation activities in 60 communities in the HAS service area.
A native of Petit-Goâve, Marthe has been enthusiastic about the natural world since she was a child – she was inspired in large part by her father who was an agronomist. When she chose her profession, she says she wanted to pursue her passions and also continue the work of her father. She has worked with many organizations focused on the environment, food security, and social conservation. She received a Master’s degree in Environmental Psychology and Water Usage at Université Quisqueya in Port-au-Prince.
“I see that HAS has been doing great work through the agroforestry program,” she says. “Many organizations work in this domain but HAS has proven to be successful in creating change for the communities in which it works.” As Marthe delves into her work with HTRIP, she would like to put increased emphasis on soil conservation as well as add thorough monitoring and evaluation.
To date, the HTRIP program, supported by Haiti Friends, has planted over 2 million trees and worked with thousands of farmers in the Artibonite to sustainably produce and harvest timber and conserve the land.
