FEATURED PROJECTS

  • HAS Solar Power System

Haiti is very sunny, but the power supply in most places is still largely provided by expensive and environmentally harmful diesel generators, simply because the grid infrastructure is lacking. Generously led by the SWISS PARTNERSHIP HAS HAITI (SPHASH), the HAS Solar Power System is improving the cost of energy production in both money and environmental impact.

  • Meeting Increased Demand for Emergency Care

A grant from American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA), part of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is helping HAS renovate and expand its emergency and inpatient units to address a steep rise in demand for emergency trauma care. Renovations will help improve evaluation, diagnostics and treatment.

  • Microbiology Adds Diagnostic Capabilities at HAS Laboratory

For a number of patients who come to HAS, our normal diagnostic capabilities are not sufficient to identify the specific pathogen which has caused their disease. As a result, the physicians must try several therapeutic courses until the disease shows some improvement. Now, however, HAS is able to move more quickly to identify the source of these patients’ conditions and to select the drug which is best able to control the infection.

  • Improving Surgery Outcomes While Reaching the Poorest with Surgical Care

In collaboration with researchers from the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, surgeons at HAS are conducting research that promises to improve surgical outcomes in challenged settings and ensure equal access to surgery among all patients regardless of income.
