Last Friday, HAS was honored to host Marisol Wandiga, the Program Officer for the Caribbean Region from Global Links, and Jenn Eason, the In-the-Field Representative for Haiti from Global Giving.
Global Links, based in Pittsburgh, PA, redistributes surplus medical equipment and materials to promote environmental stewardship and improve health in resource-poor communities, particularly throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. They are a long-time provider of medical supplies to HAS that help keep our wards stocked. In particular, their suture program has ensured consistent availability of sutures for the 1,800+ surgeries that HAS provides each year at the hospital and in our community health clinics. HAS also receives a variety of other contributions from Global Links, especially hospital furniture, such as rolling medicine cabinets which help our healthcare professionals work more efficiently.
Global Giving provides an online fundraising platform for non-profits like HAS. HAS has raised $7,000 through Global Giving so far, and currently has a project aimed at raising funds for our renowned maternal healthcare services. Jenn came to HAS for the first time on Friday to see the project and the hospital as a whole in action.
After a full day of touring and learning about this place, Jenn said: “The visit was great! I really, really enjoyed getting to see the ins and outs of the hospital and ALL the other facets of the campus. What a unique and impressively well-oiled machine you all are running. The quality of your staff there is outstanding.” Marisol added that she had both amazement and respect for the entire team after getting an up-close look at our daily operations.
We at HAS are extremely proud of the good work that we do, and are grateful to Jenn and Marisol for taking the time to come and visit us. Their kind words fuel our passion, and their support helps to keep us running day in and day out.
