Hôpital Albert Schweitzer Haiti Board and staff are deeply saddened by the loss of longtime HAS friend and advisor Francis Xavier “Fran” Wymard, whose work in the service of HAS following the 2010 earthquake will long be remembered with great gratitude. Mr. Wymard spent many months at HAS Haiti in the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake, providing advice and consulting assistance as the hospital absorbed a large influx of patients in need and experienced increased strain on an already burdened infrastructure.
“Fran was instrumental in coming to the assistance of HAS following the devastating earthquake of 2010 to assess and provide strategic guidance to both leadership and the HAS Board,” remembers John Walton, HAS Board Chair. “His friendship, compassion, and willingness to work for an extended period in Haiti, absorbing firsthand the challenges and dimensions of Haiti’s suffering, contributed much to HAS’s ability to move forward.”
Mr. Wymard is survived by his wife, Rachel Walton Wymard, children, grandson, and other extended family, and is mourned by many friends and former colleagues. The entire HAS Board and staff extend our deepest condolences to the Wymard family for their loss.
