Canadian Friends of Hôpital Albert Schweitzer Haiti (CFHAS) dedicated a weekend to raising funds for HAS by participating in the Hamilton Marathon Road2Hope in Ontario, Canada. This well-attended and popular event took place on November 1-2, 2014, and drew more than 3,000 runners and walkers, raising tens of thousands of dollars for a number of charity partners. HAS could not be more grateful to the 25 members of CFHAS who ran, walked or staffed the information booth to raise $5,808 in support of our shared mission—to improve the health care and quality of life for the 350,000 people of the Artibonite Valley in Haiti.
Founded in 2003, CFHAS raises funds and awareness for HAS’s maternal and child health programs in the Hamilton, Ontario, area and beyond. CFHAS Board member Dr. Paul Benassi and his wife, Bev, spearheaded the fundraising efforts of the team, with Brad and Elinor Berquist and family as co-organizers.
“HAS is such an efficient and effective healthcare organization in Haiti,” said Dr. Benassi. “With a 58-year track record of leadership in improving public health in Haiti, HAS understands that genuine collaboration with the communities it serves is vital to success. We were delighted to help raise funds for HAS through this marathon event, and we had fun doing it.”
We congratulate Paul and Bev, the Berquist family, and the entire CFHAS team for the great results, and thank them for this generous support, which will benefit many patients and families in need in Haiti.
