As many have heard, Haiti experienced another terrible set back over the weekend with a 7.2 magnitude earthquake. Thousands have perished and countless are wounded or missing. Though the epicenter was in the South, the tremors felt miles away at HAS were so strong that patients ran out of the hospital.
HAS immediately began working with local partners and international humanitarian aid groups to respond. We stand ready to receive patients or evacuees and offer assistance of any kind.
This latest natural disaster brings back memories of the terrible quake in 2010, when HAS was one of the only hospitals in the country able to receive, treat and save patients in the first hours and days. As difficult and challenging as that time was, it remains one of the proudest moments in our 65-year history.
Our focus now is to find ways to support our friends and neighbors all throughout Haiti by making our surgical, emergency medical, partnering and logistics strengths available to those most in need.
