HAS Physical Therapist Sabine Rene’s Commitment to Care

HAS physical therapist, Sabine Rene, is committed to providing quality care to her community.

The Rehabilitation Services and Physical Therapy program is one of few Rehab/PT programs in the entire country of Haiti. The program improves patients’ overall quality of care and enables faster and more effective recoveries. The physical therapists (PTs) work with surgeons at the hospital to identify the earliest moment patients can begin PT in the wards and continue to work with individual patients until they are ready to leave the hospital and beyond. For example, PT techs perform up to 12% of all home visit consultations for those who cannot travel to the hospital.

One such physical therapist, Sabine Rene, works with inpatients, outpatients, and technicians working in the community at homes and health centers. Sabine highlights that many do not know what physical therapy is and how it can significantly improve recovery from injury. By offering this vital service, both in the hospital and through home visits, HAS ensures that patients receive a quality continuum of care. Sabine shares: “My job is important to me. I grew up in this area. This is my home and I’m happy to provide care to my community.”
