Dr. Jennifer Honore is young doctor who since March 2017 has been placed at HAS as part of the Social Service Resident Program. Before arriving in Deschapelles, she had been studying medicine in Port-au-Prince and was also an active member of the Rotaract Club of Port-au-Prince —a branch of Rotary International for young professionals under the age of 30.
In working in the medical field, Dr. Honore recognized the urgent need for blood donations at a greater level in Haiti, and particularly in rural hospitals like Hôpital Albert Schweitzer. In collaboration with her Rotaract Club, Dr. Honore participated in the development of a “Blood Drive Caravan.” The first “stop” was in Port-au-Prince, and then they made their way to Deschapelles. Though giving blood is not a normal practice in Haiti, individuals from out of town, employees from the hospital, and people from the community all came together to make blood donations on Sunday, August 20.
HAS is lucky to have amazing young leaders like Dr. Jennifer Honore practicing medicine at the hospital. After finishing her year of social service residency, Dr. Honore plans to continue on to receive a specialty in either pediatrics or surgery. She says she “loves helping others without receiving anything in return.”
From everyone at HAS, we wish you good luck as you move forward Dr. Honore. Thank you for your service!
