Welcoming New Medical Director, Dr. Bien-Aimé

HAS Medical Director, Dr. Bien-Amié

It is our great pleasure to announce that Dr. Bien-Aimé, a longtime member of the HAS surgical staff, has been named Medical Director of HAS. Though his official tenure began on September 1st, he had been serving as the Interim Medical Director for almost three months and has spent the last six months as Chief of Surgery. He has been employed consecutively at HAS on a part-time basis since 2006, but has been working on our campus on and off for the last 25 years. Dr. Bien-Aimé has a wealth of administrative experience, having served as the Medical Director at the public hospital in his hometown of Gonaives.

As he takes on this new role at HAS, Dr. Bien-Aimé states his primary objective is working with the staff to ensure steady improvement in the quality of care provided at HAS. The patient experience, in his mind, starts as soon as the patient walks through the door of the hospital. He truly believes that the way a health professional communicates with a patient makes a difference in their overall experience and the outcomes of their care.

He also recognizes that many factors influence the quality of healthcare that patients receive, and that any improvements will require a high level of collaboration within our organization. In an interview with one of our staff members, he said that “it will be important for all levels of the organization to communicate to be able to accomplish change and growth in the hospital.”

For the moment, Dr. Bien-Aimé will continue to serve as Chief of Surgery as transitions are taking place in the hospital. While he recognizes that this will not be tenable long-term, he does plan to continue to operate when he can as it what he is trained in and loves to do.

When not at the hospital, Dr. Bien-Aimé holds dance class at his home in Deschapelles where both staff and members of the community learn ballroom dance—such as salsa, chacha, and rhumba.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Bien-Aimé by making a donation of $100 in honor of his tenure. As the Haitian proverb says, “men anpil chay pa lou” – many hands make light work. Your unrestricted gifts today will help make Dr. Bien-Aimé’s goal of improving the HAS patient experience a reality.
