Celebrating Two Decades of Partnership

Posted on December 14, 2011 by Courtney

Today in Switzerland and in Haiti, twenty years of friendship and support for the people of Haiti are being celebrated.  Hôpital Albert Schweitzer Haiti (HAS) very gratefully recognizes the 20th anniversary of our partnership with Verein Partnerschaft Kinderspitaeler Biel (VPKB) on December 14, 2011.

The Biel group, based in the western region of Switzerland, is an invaluable partner for HAS: since 1991, they have supported more than 20 Swiss pediatricians and a number of nurses to serve at the hospital.  VPKB has lent a major hand in the renovation and reconstruction of six health centers around HAS and continues to manage the two of the HAS health centers  at Plassac and Deslandes.

After the January 2010 earthquake, VPKB assisted in covering the excess expenses of restructuring plans and salaries of the HAS staff.

The town of Biel is celebrating this collaboration with an internationally recognized performance by theater troupe “Mummenschanz” to benefit Haiti and the current projects at the hospital, under the patronage of Biel’s mayor, Erich Fehr.

From HAS, we want to extend our deepest thanks for the assistance to the Haitian people.  We look forward to continued partnership in the future!
